Immature Stages of Culicidae

Detailed information on immature stages of Culicidae is being acquired.  However, Clausen (1940) noted that the larvae of several genera and species are predaceous on their own kind, and in some the habit is obligatory.  Others attack a variety of insect larvae and smaller animals.  Howard et al. (1912) reviewed the predaceous habit in Culicidae.  The larvae of Psorophora, Megarhinus, Lutzia, Eucorethra, Chaoborus and Lesticocampa are very voracious, and some Anopheles show a cannibalistic tendency.
